SIKESTON -- Thanks to grant funding, Sikeston's fire stations will soon be better able to keep running in the event of a power outage.
Chief Drew Juden of the Sikeston Department of Public Safety briefed City Council members on grants received from the Assistance for Firefighters Grants during Wednesday's special meeting. The grant money could be used for the purchase of two generators and one breathing air compressor, each up to $40,000, for a total of $120,000 in funds.
"Last year, we went ahead and purchased the breathing air compressor with our dollars," said Juden. He noted that the funding will still be refunded to the department for the equipment, which cost about $37,000.
