SIKESTON - August has arrived and unleashed extremely hot and humid weather across Southeast Missouri.
The National Weather Service at Paducah has issued a heat warning from noon today through 7 p.m. Wednesday. Maximum heat index values this afternoon are forecast to range from 110 to 115 degrees while Wednesday's maximum heat index values could again reach 110 degrees of higher, forecasters warned.
There won't be much relief after the sun goes down, either. According to the National Weather Service evening heat index values will remain in the 80s for much of the night.
"Now is the time to prepare for what will likely be the hottest conditions we have seen so far this summer," the Weather Service advised. "Heat of this magnitude can result in heat-related illnesses very quickly."
