WILLISTON, N.D. -- The Sikeston 14-year-old All-Stars stayed alive in the 14-year-old Midwest Plains Regional on Sunday evening, defeating Santa Fe, Colo., 10-0.

Sikeston, who lost to Waite Park, Minn., 7-5 on Saturday, came into Sunday needing to defeat Santa Fe in order to avoid being eliminated from the double-elimination tournament. Pitcher Jarrett Sandlin gave Sikeston just what they needed.

Sandlin threw a complete game one-hitter, allowing only two base runners in the entire contest while striking out eight and walking only one. Sandlin struck out the side in the bottom of the fifth to end the game by the mercy rule.

While Sandlin was keeping the Waite Park bats at bay, Sikeston overcame a slow start and broke the game open with five runs in the third inning. Sikeston then added one in the fourth and four in the fifth, topped off by a two-run towering home run down the left field line by Nich Noble.

Sikeston pounded out 11 hits in the game and took advantage of five Santa Fe errors. Patrick Smith and Gavin O'Brien each collected three hits while Colton Black had two. Noble and Austin Godwin each had two RBIs while O'Brien and Black each added one. Smith scored three runs while Noble, O'Brien and Jashawn McDaniel each scored two runs.

Sikeston will play the winner of Ottawa, Kan., and Fargo, N.D., today. Ottawa and Fargo were scheduled to play at 10 a.m.
