SIKESTON -- With this year's annual Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo taking place in the midst of a heat wave, Missouri Delta Medical Center, the Sikeston Department of Public Safety and area emergency medical services agencies led by the South Scott County Ambulance District have teamed up and prepared.

"We've never had this type of coordinated effort between the three of us," said Joy Cauthorn of MDMC. "It's supposed to be extraordinarily hot so we're trying to prevent an emergency situation from developing."

A bus lent to the joint effort by the the North Scott County Ambulance District is serving as "as our central treatment area," according to Brad Golden, chief of the South Scott County Ambulance District, while the Kennett Fire Department's air-conditioned disaster shelter is set up as a cooling area with 14 cots.
