SIKESTON -- The suspect in a Thursday afternoon strong armed robbery at a Sikeston grocery store is now behind bars, as well as an accomplice.
Ronnie Anthony Stokes, 35, of New Madrid, was arrested Friday evening by the Lilbourn Police Department. He is accused of forcibly stealing a purse from a 59-year-old woman while she walked into Food Giant, located at 945 E. Malone in Sikeston.
"The suspect ran from the area with the purse and was seen getting into a vehicle driven by another subject," said Sgt. Jim McMillen of the Sikeston Department of Public Safety. Both suspects fled in the vehicle as police responded to the area.
Police soon learned the suspects attempted to use the stolen credit card at two convenience stores in New Madrid County, and Lilbourn police officers were able to identify the subject on security cameras.
Arrested later Thursday evening was Robin B. Jones, 35, of Lilbourn. He has been charged with second degree robbery, fraudulent use of a credit card and driving while revoked. As of press time, he was in custody at the New Madrid County Jail under a $15,500 cash or surety bond.
