DEXTER -- Dexter's Lady Bearcats ushered in a new era in volleyball with a sweep of the Richland Lady Rebels Monday night at the Bearcat Events Center in the season-opener for both teams.
Dexter rolled to an easy 25-7, 25-8 win over the Lady Rebels in the varsity game after Dexter took the opening jayvee contest in two games.
The game marked the first for first-year Dexter volleyball coach Lauren Hutchcraft and her assistant Rebecca Lovelady.
The game was also the first played by the team in the BEC.
" I'd have to say that the girls played decent," Hutchcraft said of the varsity team. "Unfortunately, we weren't tested enough to really see what we need to work on for the next game.
"Hopefully we'll get a better idea against Kennett (tonight)," she continued. "I know we'll really be tested when we play Jackson on Thursday night, which will provide us with a good read on what we need to work on and to see if we can hang with the big dogs.
"The girls have worked really hard for us in practice the last three weeks, and I know their hard work is going to pay off."
Dexter jumped out to early leads in both varsity games, building a 13-5 advantage in Game 1 before finishing it of on a 12-2 run.
Game 2 was much the same when Lauren Ward was at the service line in a 3-2 game as the Lady 'Cats reeled off 12 straight points for a 15-2 advantage.
