Dogs get defensive

Charleston's Kamari Allmon is tackled by a host of Sikeston Bulldogs on Friday night. Sikeston won the game 51-6, limiting Charleston to 70 total yards.
SIKESTON - The Sikeston Bulldogs improved to 2-0 on the season with a dominating 51-6 home victory over Charleston in the 125th meeting between the two schools Friday night.

Sikeston tallied 30 points in the first quarter alone and limited the Bluejays to just 70 yards of offense on the night.

The Bluejays dug themselves a hole barely a minute into the game as the Bulldogs' defense forced quarterback Mike Hull to slip and fall in the end zone for a safety.

After receiving the free kick, Darryl Howard scored on Sikeston's first offensive snap of the game for a 37-yard touchdown run, giving the Bulldogs a 9-0 lead after only a minute and 40 seconds had elapsed off the clock.

And the rout was on.

Sikeston led 37-0 at the half and kept the Bluejays off the scoreboard until the final play of the game.

Sikeston totaled 330 yards of total offense with 268 coming on the ground.

Charleston falls to 0-2 on the season.
