Oran splits pair in Notre Dame Softballfest

CAPE GIRARDEAU -- The Oran Lady Eagles softball team split their games in pool play of the Notre Dame Softballfest on Friday afternoon, blasting Ste. Genevieve 23-5 before seeing a late rally fall short to Cobden, Ill., 9-7.

In their opening game against Ste. Genevieve, Oran scored 11 runs in the second inning and 10 runs in the fourth inning, routing the Lady Hunters 23-5.

The Lady Eagles pounded out 15 hits, led by three from Molly McConnell and two apiece from Abbey Anderson, Amanda Williams, Halle Woodfin, Shelbie Seyer and Morgan Todt.

Todt was also the winning pitcher, going four innings while allowing five runs, three earned on five hits, walking three and striking out two.

In the second game, Oran trailed Cobden 9-2 going into the sixth inning but the Lady Eagles scored five to put the game at 9-7. However the game was stopped after the five-run top of the sixth due to the time limit.

Williams and Taylor Nenninger each had two hits apiece for Oran as the Lady Eagles had nine in the game. Todt took the loss for Oran, giving up seven runs (six earned) on 12 hits while walking two and striking out three.
