CAPE GIRARDEAU -- The SEMO Spike volleyball tournament kicked off on Friday with the first day of pool play as several local teams took part.
Sikeston came away 1-3 in the first day of pool play, splitting their match with Gideon 25-21, 20-25 and falling to Bloomfield 25-23, 25-10.
Scott City, the defending state champs in Class 2, went 3-1 on Friday, defeating Kingston 25-9, 25-14 and splitting with Lesterville 24-25, 25-23.
Portageville finished 2-2, defeating Marquand 25-7, 25-16 before falling to Zalma 25-11, 25-20.
Oran went 1-3 on the day, splitting with Ellington 12-25, 25-17 and falling to Seckman 25-9, 25-16.
New Madrid County Central was also 1-3, losing to Jackson 25-4, 25-20 and splitting with South Iron 19-25, 25-12.
Richland finished 0-4, falling to Clearwater 25-14, 25-20 and Kingston 25-12, 25-22.
Dexter dropped their first match to Zalma 25-13, 25-9 and took on Park Hills Central later. No score was reported from that game.
