SIKESTON -- A man was arrested after attempting to rob a Sikeston bank on Friday.
At 10:56 a.m., the Sikeston Department of Public Safety received a call from US Bank, 104 E. Center St., in reference to a man saying he was there to rob the bank.
Officers immediately responded to the scene, located less than a block from DPS Headquarters and detained the subject, who was unarmed, said Sgt. Jim McMillen, public information officer.
According to McMillen, an employee said the man walked up to the window of the bank and demanded cash.
"They said the subject walked off and went around the building and entered," McMillen continued. "He was in the bank for only a short period of time when he was arrested by DPS officers."
According to DPS, officers are now looking into claims that the man may be suffering from a possible psychological or medical problem.
No one was injured during the scare and the man was arrested, said McMillen.
The matter will be reviewed by the Scott County Prosecutor's Office and a determination will be made if charges will be filed.
