Charleston takes doubles title at Sikeston Invite

SIKESTON -- The Charleston Lady Bluejays tennis team dueled itself for the doubles championship at the Sikeston Invitational Tournament on Saturday with the team of Jasmine Spence and Gabrielle Quinn overcoming their Charleston counterpart, Madeline Burke and Taylor Duenne, 8-6.

Spence and Quinn, who were seeded third in the doubles bracket, defeated Sikeston's Bailey Coleman and Geena Hooper in the first round, 8-2. They went on to upset the No. 1 team of Anna Kay Hilburn and Caroline Shetley from Kennett, 8-4, to reach Burke and Duenne in the finals.

Kennett's Alexandria Brown swept the singles bracket defeating teammate Brianna Burcham in the finals round, 8-2.

Sikeston's Kelsey Dial lost to Burcham in the semifinals round, 8-5, and was the only Lady Bulldog to make it out of the first round.

Sikeston, Charleston, Kennett and Fredericktown all took place in the tournament.
