Sikeston pounds East Prairie, 15-0

SIKESTON -- Everything was clicking Wednesday afternoon for the Sikeston Lady Bulldogs when they took on the visiting East Prairie Lady Eagles.

With pitcher Sydney Davied throwing three perfect innings and the offense combining for 12 hits, Sikeston was able to run-rule the Lady Eagles, winning 15-0 after three innings.

"I think the girls did really well waiting on the ball," Lady Bulldogs coach Tiffany Morgan said. "They were patient and got nice solid hits. That's something we've been working on."

After a four-run first, Sikeston had its biggest frame of the afternoon in the second, using five hits, three walks and a hit batter to put up eight runs.

Starting with leadoff hitter Sarah Hopson, eight consecutive Lady Bulldogs crossed the plate during the inning.

Needing three runs to have the game called in the bottom of the third, Davied and Elizabeth Bolen both reached and scored to lead off the frame leaving Sikeston one run away from the win.

Finally, with two outs and runners on first and second, Hopson hit a line drive to left field, scoring Courtney Collins from second to win the game.

"I thought we played very well," Davied said. "We waited on the ball (at the plate) because their pitches were slow and we played great defense."

Soliciting grounders on all but one hit ball, Davied made quick work out of the Lady Eagles in earning her perfect game. Through the final two innings she struck out four of the six batters she faced.

"Sydney got her perfect game in," Morgan said. "She's been really working on her control and starting off on top and then throwing her other pitches and today that's what she did."

On offense it was No. 5 hitter Bolen leading Sikeston's effort. She went 3-for-3 with a double in the third and a RBI in each plate appearance.

Hopson, Nicki James and Katie Hines also had multiple hits for the Lady Bulldogs collecting two apiece.

With the win, Sikeston moves back up to the .500 mark at 7-7 on the season. They will travel to Oran today to face the Lady Eagles at 4 p.m.
