Scott City downs Saxony, Chaffee falls to Twin Rivers


SIKESTON -- Breaking a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the eighth, the Sikeston Lady Bulldogs came up came up winners on senior night against East Carter.

After Sydney Davied led off the inning with a triple, Nicki James brought her in on a squeeze play to give Sikeston the 2-1 win.

Being senior night, Lady Bulldog coach Tiffany Morgan said it was pretty big for the team that a pair of seniors, Davied and James, drove in and scored the winning run while fellow senior, pitcher Sarah Hopson, earned the win.

Now at 10-7, Sikeston will play its last home game of the season today, taking on Saxony Lutheran at 4 p.m.

Twin Rivers 10, Chaffee 0

CHAFFEE -- The Chaffee Lady Devils fell to the Twin Rivers Lady Royals on Tuesday afternoon in a 10-0, five inning affair.

Chaffee mustered just two hits against Twin Rivers starter Cindy Nippe and Adrienne Eichhorn had them both.

"They are a very good team," Chaffee head coach Shawn Powderly said. "They hit, fielded and played better than we did."

The Royals were held scoreless until the third inning when they posted seven runs to gain a comfortable lead. Twin Rivers added one in the fourth and two more in the fifth to end the game on the mercy rule.

Chaffee (5-14) will host Greenville on Thursday at 4 p.m.

Scott City 16, Saxony Lutheran 1

Already up by three entering the fifth, the visiting Scott City Lady Rams broke out for 12 runs in the frame, beating Saxony Lutheran 16-1 on the mercy rule.

Earning the win, starting Alexis Spriggs pitched a no-hitter to help push the Lady Rams to 12-9 on the season.

Leading Scott City at the plate, Julie Holder, Lindsay Kern, Macy Hall and Jenna Cummins all had two hits apiece.

Kern had the games lone extra-base hit, a double, while collecting four runs-batted-in.

Next, Scott City travels to St. Vincent Thursday, where they will play the Lady Indians at 4 p.m.

Leopold 2, Dexter 1

DEXTER -- After winning their first set against the Leopold Lady Wildcats, the Dexter Lady Bearcats lost the last two sets letting the Lady Wildcats slip past them, 25-20, 23-25 and 10-25.

Elisha Flanigan led Dexter with seven kills while Brittany Harris and Hannah Noe added six apiece. Lauren Ward finished with nine assists.


SHS 5, Fredericktown 4

FREDERICKTOWN -- The Sikeston Lady Bulldogs tennis team defeated Fredericktown on Tuesday, 5-4.

Jacarra Lampkin, Kelsey Dial, Martha Neel and Brooke Partridge all won their respective singles matches while Lampkin and Dial teamed up to win their doubles match.

"Everyone played well today," Sikeston head coach Russ Dial said. "Brooke Partridge and Martha Neel had wins that put us over the top."

Sikeston is scheduled to play Dexter today at 4 p.m.
