CARUTHERSVILLE -- The Charleston Bluejays gave the undefeated Caruthersville Tigers all they wanted for one quarter, but ended their season at 0-10 with a 45-0 loss on Thursday night.
The game was scoreless after one quarter before the Tigers broke the game open in the second quarter by hitting the Bluejays with big plays. Vohland Fonda broke free for a 47-yard touchdown run to start the scoring, giving Caruthersville a 6-0 lead.
After a Bluejay punt, Tiger quarterback Perry Middleton hit Peter Lloyd for an 81-yard touchdown pass and after the point after led 13-0. Caruthersville extended the lead to 20-0 at the half when Darries Johnson scored on an 18-yard touchdown run.
Fonda struck again in the third quarter, returning a punt 55 yards for a touchdown and then breaking off a 66-yard touchdown run to give the Tigers a 32-0 lead after three.
Caruthersville scored twice more in the fourth quarter to make the final 45-0 and finishing their regular season at 10-0.
The Tigers will host Crystal City in the Class 2 regionals on Wednesday.
