CHARLESTON -- For the first time in 16 years, Mississippi County voters have selected a new presiding commissioner.
Republican Carlin Bennett narrowly defeated Democratic candidate Jack Feezor by seven votes. Bennett received 1,644 votes, Feezor garnered 1,637, and 166 votes were cast for Independent Danny Norman.
As Bennett won by only .20 percent, the vote is eligible for a recount if Feezor requests one through a petition, according to County Clerk Junior DeLay.
The incumbent presiding commissioner, Jim Blumenberg, did not seek re-election. He has held the office since 1994.
