ST. LOUIS -- Fontbonne University has named alumna Maria Eftink the school's new director of athletics. Eftink has been serving as interim director since July, following the retirement of longtime director of athletics Lee McKinney, who continues to coach men's basketball.
"Maria's hard work and dedication to the university are unsurpassed," said Greg Taylor, executive vice president. "The institution is fortunate to have an individual who has successfully gained experience at another university and has chosen to return and work at her alma mater."
Eftink earned a bachelor's in business administration from Fontbonne in 2006, and she holds a master's degree in higher education with an emphasis in sports administration from Southeast Missouri State. She returned to her alma mater in 2009 after serving as assistant athletic director for external affairs at the University of Evansville.
"I am grateful to Dr. Golden and the Fontbonne administration for giving me this opportunity." Eftink said. "I would like to commend Coach McKinney for all he has accomplished during his tenure and thank him for being a wonderful mentor to me throughout the years. I look forward to continue enhancing Fontbonne athletics and enriching the experience of our student-athletes."
Fontbonne is a Division III program in the National Collegiate Athletic Association, and the university's teams also compete in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
