CAPE GIRARDEAU -- The Sikeston Bulldogs J.V. team won its third straight Notre Dame Junior Varsity Tournament on Saturday with a 69-39 victory over the Jackson Indians.
It's Sikeston's fifth Notre Dame Tournament championship in the last six years.
"We've had the luxury of having some very good players at the J.V. level and several good classes come through in the last several years and that's allowed us to have some success," said junior varsity coach Brian James.
Sikeston jumped out to an 18-4 lead after one quarter and never looked back. The Bulldogs (3-0) led 41-16 at the half and 61-27 heading into the fourth quarter.
"We came out with great intensity," said James. "They've had a lot of success at the junior high levels and we came into the tournament with basically one practice after our football success. I knew we'd get out of the gates a little slow in that first game, but really other than the first half of the first game, we were pretty strong all week. Today we really put a complete game together."
Sikeston was led in scoring by Vashawn Ruffin's 20 points to go with his 10 assists. Freshman J.T. Jones had 19 points.
Jackson was led by Skyler Steele's 11 points.
