SIKESTON -- The Sikeston seventh grade basketball team won its second straight Sikeston Tournament championship on Friday night, defeating Cape Central 44-40.
The Bulldogs held a slim 19-18 lead at halftime before breaking out in the third quarter, giving themselves a comfortable 38-28 lead heading into the final quarter.
Cape Central didn't go down without a fight however, and cut the lead to four late in the contest but the Bulldogs were able to hold on for the win.
"We're proud to win the tournament," said Sikeston coach Derek James. "We beat a really talented Cape Central team and got a great effort from everybody."
Sikeston was led in scoring by Dominique Dyes who finished with 16 points while Jaylen Mallory and Nathan Hampton added 8 and 7 points respectively.
