Risco wins first round tourney game

Lady Eagles defeat Bravettes, Scott City handles Woodland

CLARKTON -- Trying to continue their string of championship appearances, the Risco Tigers moved one step closer to a third-straight Clarkton Holiday Tournament finals with a 88-56 win over Cooter on Monday night.

The Tigers are two seasons removed from a tournament championship.

"We've been in this situation now for the last two years," Risco head coach Brandon Blankenship said. "We now have to go up against the No. 1 seed again."

Risco's Chris Pavy led the Tigers with 26 points while Austin White added a hefty 21.

The Tigers burst the game wide open in the second quarter scoring 34 points to take a 48-32 lead at the half.

They continued to out-pace the Wildcats 40-24 in the second half.

Zach Watkins had a team-high 24 points for Cooter while Shane Henning added 18.

Risco will now take on Gosnell on Thursday in the semifinals at 6 p.m.

SIKESTON -- Tied at 15 after the first quarter, the Oran Lady Eagles separated themselves from the Scott County Central Bravettes by outscoring them 23-8 in the second quarter putting them well on their way to a 79-57 win on Monday.

Cheyanne King scored a game-high 34 points for Oran while Taylor Nenninger added 26 for the Lady Eagles as well.

Daisy Gillespie led the Bravettes with 13 points. Johniqua Fort and Starr Lawless each added 11 points.

JACKSON -- The Delta Lady Bobcats lost their second game in-a-row on Monday suffering a 61-55 loss to the Saxony Lutheran Lady Crusaders.

Machela Van Gennip's 29 points wasn't enough to propel Delta, who led 30-24 at halftime. Saxony outscored the Lady Bobcats 17-6 in the third quarter setting the stage for their home-court victory.
