Bearcats slowed by Jackson, Saxony outlasts Portageville

NEW MADRID -- The New Madrid County Central Eagles were limited to six points through the entire second half on Tuesday night falling to the Notre Dame Bulldogs, 57-29.

NMCC fell behind 31-23 at the half but was outscored 26-6 throughout the last two quarters.

Lamonte Nelson led the Eagles' charge with 11 points while Jamareia Jones added eight.

Notre Dame's Jacob Tolbert scored a game-high 28 points.

DEXTER -- A slow start out of the second half doomed the Dexter Bearcats on Tuesday night as they fell to the Jackson Indians, 66-58, at the Bearcat Event Center.

Dexter was held to eight points in the third quarter and allowed 24 to the Indians.

Despite outscoring Jackson 27-19 in the fourth, the deficit the Bearcats had in front of them was too big to overcome.

Alan Flannigan poured in a game-high 24 points for Dexter as Jake Cox added 17.

Jackson was led in scoring by Bobby Clark's 23 points.

JACKSON -- The Portageville Bulldogs couldn't hold off the Saxony Lutheran Crusaders on Tuesday in the fourth quarter and lost 77-74 at Saxony Lutheran High School.

Leading 54-52 after three quarters of play, Saxony outscored the Bulldogs 25-20 in the final frame.

Fred Treadwell led Portageville with 18 points while Jake Young added 17. Tevin Walker and Rondraus Booker chipped in 14 and 13 respectively.

Saxony's Gus Klaus poured in 30 points to lead all scorers.

ORAN -- The Oran Eagles raced out to a 27-6 lead after the first quarter giving them plenty of room against the visiting East Prairie Eagles on Tuesday night.

Oran went on to win the game 67-35.

Nathan Michelsen scored 17 points for Oran while Reece Mangels added 16.

Connor Scott and Phillip Latomondeer scored 14 and 10 for East Prairie respectively.

DELTA -- The Delta Bobcats out-dueled the Meadow Heights Panthers in the fourth quarter on Tuesday coming away with a 74-70 win.

Tied at 51 after three quarters, the Bobcats posted 23 points while keeping Meadow Heights at 19 to preserve the win.

Greg Brawley led Delta with 20 points while Zach Riegert added 18.

SIKESTON -- The eighth grade Sikeston Bulldogs outscored the Charleston Bluejays 13-3 in the third quarter completing the comeback and escaping with a 49-37 win at the Sikeston Junior High on Tuesday.

Zach Jackson paced Sikeston with 22 points while Corbyn Blissett added 11.

This win follows the eighth grades first loss which was against Poplar Bluff on Monday, 39-35. It was the first loss suffered by this squad after going undefeated last season in seventh grade.

Sikeston 47, Charleston 17

SIKESTON -- The Sikeston seventh grade basketball team improved to 6-1 on the season with a 47-17 victory against Charleston at the Sikeston Junior High on Tuesday.

It's the seventh grade Bulldogs' sixth straight victory this season.

Sikeston raced out to a 19-3 first quarter lead and never looked back. The Bulldogs led 26-8 at the half and extended the lead to 39-15 heading into the fourth quarter.

Sikeston was led in scoring by Dominique Dyes' 21 points. Jaylen Mallory followed up with eight points. Cedric McIntyre added six points.

Sikeston will travel to play Cape Central tonight at 6 p.m. The seventh grade Bulldogs will conclude their season tomorrow at Jackson.
