CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The New Madrid County Central Eagles fell into the consolation bracket of the 47th Annual Carbondale Holiday Tournament on Monday, dropping a 66-40 contest to Trico, Ill.
A cold shooting first half put the Eagles in a deep hole early as the Pioneers jumped out to an 18-4 first quarter lead and led 35-9 at halftime. NMCC (1-6) only managed four field goals in the first half, shooting 22 percent (4-18) for the two quarters while Trico shot 54 percent (14-26).
The Eagles improved their shooting in the second half but it was too little, too late as Trico had a comfortable lead.
Jamareia Jones had 10 points to lead the Eagles while CJ Chism added nine to go along with seven rebounds. Keith Holmes also put in nine points. For the game NMCC shot 37 percent and were outrebounded 36-21.
Chase Heins had 16 points and nine rebounds to lead the Pioneers while Jesse Smith and Tyler Coleman added 14 and 12 respectively.
The Eagles were back in action in today's consolation bracket, taking on Cairo, Ill., at 10:30 a.m. at Carbondale Community High School.
