BENTON -- Scott County will begin the year without its primary in-house grant writer but may still hit the ground running with Rural Development grant applications.
Cathy Walters, community development specialist for the U.S Department of Agriculture's Rural Development, met with commissioners during the regular County Commission meeting Tuesday to discuss upcoming grant opportunities.
Walters said that as Joel Evans, county developer, is resigning effective Jan. 7, she wanted to "follow through" on the county's application for Rural Development's community facility grants to help fund the purchase of patrol cars for the sheriff's department.
The grant program provides 15 percent of the cost of certain purchases by counties that are able to show a need for the funding. Walters said she is developing applications so the county will be ready if grant funding is available.
