CAPE GIRARDEAU -- An early lead helped stave off a furious comeback by the Notre Dame Bulldogs on Tuesday night as the fifth-seeded Charleston Bluejays pulled off a small upset, 60-54 in the quarterfinal round of the Southeast Missourian Christmas Tournament at the Show Me Center.

Charleston stormed out of the gate earning a 10-point advantage going into halftime. Their tenacious defense caused Notre Dame numerous turnovers which led to easy buckets on the other end.

The Bluejays went up by 11 points at the end of the third quarter but an inevitable run by Notre Dame was soon to come.

The Bulldogs were able to come from within one point twice during the final frame. A layup by Charleston senior Claude Armstrong made it 53-50 with two and a half minutes remaining. On Charleston's next possession, junior Greg Tucker, who finished with a team-high 19 points, converted on a one-handed scoop shoot to give the Bluejays a 5-point lead sealing Charleston's upset over the No. 4 seed.

Armstrong added 12 points for the Bluejays and Krushon Scott chipped in with nine.

Notre Dame senior Jacob Tolbert led his squad with 19 points. Alex Beussink had 13 points.

Charleston (7-2) will meet the Scott County Central Braves in the semifinals for the second year in-a-row tonight at 6 p.m. Notre Dame drops to the fifth-place bracket and will play Advance at 3 p.m.

CAPE GIRARDEAU -- The Scott County Central Braves continued their tournament dominance on Tuesday routing the Advance Hornets 100-52 in the quarterfinals of the championship bracket.

The Braves (8-2) will meet the Charleston Bluejays in the semifinal round tonight at 6 p.m. Advance will face Notre Dame in the fifth-place bracket.

Scott Central rolled out to a 28-15 lead after the first quarter. They extended that lead to 23 at halftime and then to 36 at the end of three.

With the mercy clock running, the Braves limited Advance to just one point in the final quarter sealing their 48-point win.

Otto Porter led the Braves with a game-high 35 points while Trey Johnson added 18. Stewart Johnson chipped in with 11.

CAPE GIRARDEAU -- The Oran Eagles fell behind by 14 points at the end of the first half and never recovered as the Jackson Indians knocked them out of the championship hunt with a 68-44 win on Tuesday.

Oran, the No. 6 seed, will now play in the semifinals fifth-place bracket against Leopold at 4:30 p.m. today. Third-seed Jackson will take on Cape Central in the championship semifinals at 7:30 p.m.

Oran's Jon Morrow led the Eagles with 15 points. Bobby Clark paced the Indians with 28.

CAPE GIRARDEAU -- The Cape Central Tigers advanced to the championship semifinals with a 67-53 win over the seventh-seeded Leopold Wildcats.

The Tigers outscored Leopold in every quarter as the second-seed moves on to face the Jackson Indians. The Wildcats will face off against Oran in the fifth-place bracket.

T.J. Tisdale led Cape Central with 25 points.

Kelly, who was knocked out of the tournament with the loss, was led by Garrett Alsup's nine points.

Chaffee will play Scott City at 1:30 p.m. for a chance at a consolation championship game.

Scott City found themselves down by one point after three quarters of play but outscored Delta 17-12 in the final frame for the win.

Landon Robert and Zach Cotner each scored 18 points for the Rams.

Delta was led by Greg Brawley, who scored 12 points.
