CAPE GIRARDEAU - Firearms violations by two previously convicted Sikeston men landed both of them back in federal prison.
On Tuesday, Stacy L. Townsend, 37, was sentenced to 188 months in prison for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
On May 9, a woman called the Sikeston Department of Public Safety to report that a man named "Stacy" had just brandished a firearm inside the West Side Liquor Store in Sikeston. When an officer drove onto the business' parking lot, he observed Stacy L. Townsend get into the passenger side of a vehicle.
Inside the store, the woman indicated it was Townsend who displayed the handgun. As the officer went outside, he saw the vehicle drive toward Branum Street and followed the car in his patrol vehicle to an apartment building on Ruth Street.
When the officer observed Townsend reaching into the rear cargo area of the vehicle, he drew his service firearm and approached the passenger side of the vehicle. The officer ordered Townsend to step out of the vehicle. When he eventually complied with the officer's request, Townsend was handcuffed.
