Recount will be first since Blumenberg was elected

Sunday, January 9, 2011

CHARLESTON -- In what some would see as an interesting coincidence, a recount has been ordered for later this month in the race for Jim Blumenberg's replacement as presiding county commissioner.

Carlin Bennett, a Republican, was sworn in to the office Monday.

A hand recount will be held Jan. 20 for that race, however, as requested by the Democratic candidate, Jack Feezor, who was defeated by only seven votes. A candidate may request a recount if they are within 1 percent of their opponent.

The last time a recount was requested by a candidate was in the August 1988 primary election when it was requested by Blumenberg in his first race for associate commissioner.
