Advance holds off Chaffee; Sikeston ninth graders roll

CHAFFEE -- The Chaffee Red Devils fell to 7-4 on the season, losing a hard fought 70-65 contest to Advance on Thursday night.

Chaffee led 21-19 after one quarter but Advance built a 36-32 lead heading into the break. The Hornets extended the lead to 52-46 after three, but the Red Devils couldn't close the gap.

Michael Rutherford scored 20 points to lead Chaffee while Jason Cicardi added 10 points.

Chaffee will host Kelly tonight with the junior varsity game beginning at 6 p.m.

Sikeston 54, Twin Rivers 23

POPLAR BLUFF -- The Sikeston freshman basketball team finished the Poplar Bluff Invitational with a 2-1 record, easily defeating Twin Rivers 54-23 on Thursday night.

Sikeston jumped out to a 20-6 lead after one and never looked back, rolling to the finish.

Jarious Ray scored 14 points to lead the Bulldogs as Sikeston improved to 8-2 on the season.
