Richland falls to Leopold; Scott City girls earn win


SIKESTON -- Otto Porter scored a season-high 41 points as Scott County Central rolled to an impressive 89-55 thrashing over Maplewood-Richmond Heights on Saturday afternoon at Ronnie Cookson Gymnasium.

The Braves (21-2) raced out to a 24-8 first quarter lead and were never challenged by the Blue Devils. The Braves led 54-26 at the half and 79-41 heading into the fourth quarter.

Porter also tallied 11 rebounds and six steals in the victory. Reggie Woodson followed up with 14 points and Trey Johnson and Lamarcus Steward each had 10.

Maplewood (13-11) was led by Kahlid Hagens with 17 points and Corey Frazier with 14 points.

At halftime, a pair of former Scott Central standouts from the 1960s were honored by having their numbers retired. Paul Hale, a Missouri Hall of Fame coach and Scott Central's first-ever, first team all-state athlete, Gary Owens, were both honored.

Leopold 78, Richland 43

LEOPOLD -- The Richland Rebels found themselves down early and never recovered as the Leopold Wildcats routed the visiting Rebels 78-43.

The Wildcats were up by 20 points at the end of the first quarter and held a comfortable 43-18 lead at halftime.

Ryan Kleffer led the Rebels (6-16) with 17 points.

Scott City 54, Valle 30

STE. GENEVIEVE -- Katie Hogan scored 23 points and the Scott City Rams trounced Valle Catholic, 54-30.

The Lady Rams (19-4) quickly earned a large lead in the first quarter going up 20-3.

Melanie Lacey added nine points for Scott City. Brittany Kiefer added seven.

Class 2

Dexter junior Cody Stevens placed sixth in the 160-pound weight class at the Class 2 Missouri State Championships over the weekend.

Stevens (29-8) lost to Gabe Suthoff of Clinton in the consolation semifinals on Saturday by fall at 0:57. Stevens then lost to Monterio Burton of Mexico in the fifth place match by fall at 4:10.

As a team Dexter finished tied for 34th with 7 points.
