Giving the gift of life -- over and over

BENTON -- Steve Morse hasn't had a cold or even a headache in 20 years.

And he completely attributes that to his regular blood donation.

"I believe, and my doctor has said, that donating blood is one of the healthiest things you can do," he said. "It's like changing oil in a vehicle."

The 69-year old Benton man is set to donate his 400th pint of blood by late this morning.

"I donate platelets, so I can give every two weeks," he said. "And I think I am one of the healthiest people around for my age."

To mark the occasion, Morse had a special T-shirt made that says "400 (50 gallons) and still giving."

He admitted that he is a bit superstitious, however, and won't reveal the shirt until he is hooked up to the machine and everything looks OK. "I'm too scared to jinx it," he said.
