ORAN -- Backed by Jon Morrow's 21 first-half points, Oran secured their spot in the Class 2, District 3 championship Tuesday, with a 71-39 win over Lesterville in the semifinals.

"They were kind of undermanned and had some injuries," Oran coach Joe Shoemaker said of Lesterville. "So that played a part in it. They're a well-coached team and they played hard tonight, but it was a big disadvantage for them with Jon (Morrow) inside."

Scoring ten straight points to start the game, the Eagles wasted little time putting the Bearcats in a double-digit hole they'd spend the entire game fighting to get out of.

It was a 12-0 run early in the second, with Morrow scoring 10 in that span, that lifted Oran to a 38-16 lead at the break.

"It's a good feeling," Morrow said of jumping on top early. "We always want to jump out (early) and not stop."

Putting their biggest quarter of the night up in the third, scoring 22, Oran continued to put distance between themselves and the Bearcats the entire second half.

It was in the last minute of the fourth, on a 6-0 run, that the Eagles took their biggest lead of the night, going up 72-36 on a pair of Seth Ressel free throws.

"We played hard at times," Shoemaker said of his team's performance. "There were a couple of spurts where we didn't move the ball well and didn't rebound well.

"Of course a coach is always going to say he had too many turnovers, but overall we did all right tonight."

Only able to add three more points in limited action in the second half, Morrow finished the night with a game-high 24 points for Oran while Nathan Michelsen finished with 17. Both Ressel and Tyler Heuring each added nine to the Eagles' cause.

For Lesterville, Blane Kelley had a team-high 16 points while Trevor Cunningham and and Kris Pippen had 10 and six points respectively.

With Advance's 61-53 win over Chaffee in the districts other semifinal matchup, the Eagles will now play the Hornets Thursday at 7:30 p.m for the championship.
