DEXTER -- This spring the Dexter Bearcats are tasked with replacing six seniors from last year's 12-8 team that posted several impressive wins.

Dexter does return several starters in seniors Josh Sifford, Bryn Hester; juniors Josh Overall, Alex Cliff; and sophomore Chase Young.

"The returning starters from last years team are solid ball players but we will overall be a very inexperienced team," said Dexter coach Brian Becker. "With only two seniors on this year's team, the younger kids will get some valuable experience on the varsity level which will hopefully benefit our program in the future."

The Bearcats will be very inexperienced on the mound. Of the 130 innings pitched last season, 122 were thrown by seniors who graduated last year.

"Junior Owen Flowers has worked really hard over the off-season to become a good pitcher," Becker said. "We may have to rely on some freshmen to step up and contribute this season. Hopefully the younger kids can compete and keep us in games."

Dexter opens the season Friday at Doniphan.
