RISCO -- The Risco Tigers graduated a ton of experience from their 15-8 season a year ago and will need fresh faces to step in key roles.
"We are young this year and will have to have several new faces step-up for us," Risco head coach Brandon Blankenship said. "We like our core of returning players who all contributed to last year's successful team but they will have to take on the leadership role this year."
Six seniors graduated from the Tigers including all-state selections Brandon Bennett and Ross Carter. Those seniors were key in the Tigers reaching the district championship game where they eventually fell to Cooter.
Returning for the Tigers will be seniors Kris Walker and Zakk Brannon, juniors Chris Pavy and Luke Bixler and sophomore Caleb McCord.
"Chris Pavy and Caleb McCord are our top two pitchers and saw a lot of work on the mound for us last season," said Blankenship. "Luke Bixler will have to step in and provide pitching and freshman Jordon Pavy will be in the rotation as well."
Risco will have but nine players this season including newcomers Matt Cummins, Jordan Pavy, Brandon Bixler and Eric Bennett.
"We only have nine players and a tough schedule this year so our guys will have to be tough and dedicated," Blankenship said.
Risco's season opens Friday against Chaffee at 4:30 p.m.
