EAST PRAIRIE -- Expectations are high in East Prairie this spring, as the Eagles return eight starters from last year's 13-10 team.
Led by senior pitcher Connor Scott, who finished with a 6-3 record and 1.90 ERA last year, and senior outfielder Aaron Miller, who hit .429 with 20 RBI, the Eagles look to have a well-balanced team.
Other returning starters are senior Zach Barker; juniors Zach Downing, Ryan Mathis, Dalton Golightly, Matt Dorris and Nathan Maynard.
"We have been working hard preparing for the upcoming season," said East Prairie coach Gary Scott. "We have a group of guys that know how to win and play well together. Their attitudes have been outstanding. They do what is asked of them and move on."
A key for East Prairie will be the depth of the Eagles this season. Numbers were down at East Prairie last season, making it tough at times with only 10 or 11 players. This year, the numbers are up, leaving Scott with more options.
"Knowing you have some quality kids you can bring off the bench in crucial situations is a good feeling," Scott said. "I believe the key to success this year is going to be our younger guys stepping up and producing more than they have in the past. If they do we will be okay."
East Prairie opens the season on March 21 at Saxony Lutheran.
