Sikeston baseball trounces Tigers

REIDLAND, Ky. -- The Sikeston Bulldogs got a terrific pitching performance from sophomore Trey Tigart and took advantage of several Caldwell County, Ky., miscues, en route to an 11-0 win on Saturday in the McCracken County Baseball Tournament.

Tigart pitched five innings, giving up only two hits and walking one while striking out nine, including seven of the last nine hitters.

The sophomore hurler was backed by a potent offense, led by Ross Bohannon who smashed a three-run home run in the first inning. Nathan Rodgers and Tyler Anderson each had two-RBI doubles, while senior Blake Newman had a two-RBI single.

Drew Harper finished the day 2-for-3 for the Bulldogs with an RBI.

Sikeston (2-1) was slated to play two more games in the tournament on Saturday.

Oran 2, Leopold 0

LEOPOLD -- The Oran Eagles approved to 4-0 with a 2-0 win over Leopold on Friday afternoon.

Dalton Elfrink was stellar on the mound for the Eagles, earning the win while pitching 6 2/3 innings, allowing only two hits and two walks while striking out eight. Kody Moore came in to retire the final batter by strike out, earning the save.

At the plate, Oran had three hits, including one from Dylan Dannenmueller and Tyler Huering, both who scored a run. Moore had a double for the Eagles while Zac Chasteen and Elfrink each had RBIs.

Malden 7,

South Pemiscot 3

MALDEN -- The Malden Green Wave scored six runs in the first two innings and held on to defeat South Pemiscot 7-3 on Friday.

Malden collected nine hits in the contest, including two apiece from Tanner Murphy, Tyler Golden and Jordan McMunn. Murphy had a double and a home run for two RBIs.

Down 6-0 entering the top of the fourth, South Pemiscot rallied for three runs but couldn't muster any more in the loss.

Jacob Trammel had two hits for the Bulldogs in a losing effort.

Jordan Carter was saddled with the loss, pitching all six innings, giving up seven earned runs on nine hits while walking two and striking out seven. Malden's Dylan Earnheart picked up the win, going 6 2/3 innings, allowing three runs off six hits while walking four and striking out five.

South Iron 4, Risco 2

RISCO -- The Risco Tigers lost 4-2 to South Iron on Friday during the Van Buren Wood Bat Tournament.

Jordon Pavy received the loss on the mound in his 3 1/3 innings of work. Matt Cumins hit a double for the Tigers.

Dexter 9, Sikeston 0

DEXTER -- The Dexter Bearcats swept the Sikeston Bulldogs 9-0 in tennis action on Thursday at Dexter.

"Due to a shortage of players who were injured or ill, several of our lower rank players had to play up in rank today," said Sikeston coach Russ Dial. "Consequently , the lack of experience made it a quick match but our guys played hard and they are beginning to improve."

Sikeston played in the Poplar Bluff Tournament Saturday.
