SIKESTON -- Just a little over two weeks into her new role as assistant supervisor at the Sikeston OAKS Center, Lisa Hicks said she's beginning to feel at home.

A native of the the Wyatt and Charleston areas, Hicks has lived in Sikeston since 1987. She worked for nearly 14 years on the medical surgical floor at Missouri Delta Medical Center before working about five years for Dr. Stephen Welton, an internal medicine physician, at Ferguson Medical Group in Sikeston. Most recently, Hicks worked for the Alzheimer's Association.

"Basically, my entire adult career I have been working with the elderly, and they're where my heart is," said Hicks, who is also certified in nutrition and fitness.

Hicks' predecessor, Cheryl Franks, resigned from the position to focus more on her family business.

"We're elated about Lisa being there," said Lana Johnson, nutrition project director for Southeast Missouri Area Agency on Aging. "She's planning on coming up with a lot of new activities for seniors and recruit some volunteers from the community to join committees and share their ideas."
