FARMINGTON -- Led by a medalist performance from Conor MacGillivray, the Sikeston golf team completed one of their best tournament showings in recent memory on Wednesday finishing second during the Farmington Invitational Tournament at Crown Point in Farmington.
"With Conor scoring as well as he did with the windy conditions is was a great day for us," Sikeston golf coach Andy McGill said.
MacGillivray was the top individual scorer shooting a 79. He was the only golfer to shoot below 80 out of the 12 total teams that competed.
As a team, Sikeston shot a 344 -- second to Notre Dame who won the tournament.
Kirk Hoggatt shot an 83 while Evan Deere finished with an 86. MacGillivray, Hoggatt and Deere all finished in the top 10 individually.
Ben Murray and Conner Landers shot a 96 and a 98 respectively.
This was the first time a McGill-led team has competed in the Farmington tourney at Crown Point which is to host site for the district tournament.
"Our scores are already lower than they were at districts last year and we were playing pretty well at that time," said McGill. "We just need to be a little more consistent with our scores. But, overall, this was a good experience for our kids."
