Scott City thumps NMCC in baseball action on Saturday

SPRINGFIELD -- The Sikeston boys track and field team took part in the Hillcrest Invitational on Friday, an event that brings together some of the best talent in the state.

Sikeston's Trey Lewis put together an outstanding day at the meet, finishing second in the long jump (20-11.50) and second in the triple jump (44-11). No other Bulldog finished in the top three at the event.

The Sikeston girls took part in the Jackson Invitational on Saturday, finishing third in the 16-team event. The Lady Bulldogs finished with 74 points, trailing only Kirkwood (152.5) and Jackson (77). No individual results from the meet were available at press time.

Both the boys and girls will be at New Madrid County Central on Tuesday, with the meet beginning at 4 p.m.

BASEBALL

Scott City 13, NMCC 2

NEW MADRID -- The Scott City Rams pounded out 11 hits and took advantage of several NMCC errors in a 13-2 win on Saturday.

The Rams got home runs from Ryan Fortner and Brett Dirnberger and plated four runs in the second, third and fourth innings.

Dirnberger finished the day 3-for-4 while Chris Limbaugh was 2-for-5 and Austin Atchley was 2-for-4.

Cody Ashcraft picked up the win for Scott City (3-5-1) while Jayshawn McDaniel took the loss for the Eagles.

Gabe Smith had a two-RBI double for NMCC (2-3) in the second inning, as the Eagles only managed five hits in the contest.

NMCC is back in action on Tuesday when they host East Prairie.
