Sikeston girls take third at Jackson

JACKSON -- The Sikeston girls track team finished third in the Jackson Invitational on Saturday.

The Lady Bulldogs were third out of 16 teams, compiling 74 points on the day.

"The girls did a real good job," said Sikeston track coach Terry Flannigan. "I was very pleased with their effort."

Sikeston had four first place finishes on the day, with Jalen Peet winning both the long jump and triple jump and Betsy Borgsmiller winning the high jump. Sikeston's 400-meter relay team of Vonteria Applewhite, Allisha Ogelsby, Darquiesheanna Howard and Genetrious White also took first place.

800m relay -- 2. Sikeston (Applewhite, Darquiesheanna Howard, Allisha Ogelsby, Gentetrious White), 1:49.76.

400m relay -- 1. Sikeston (Applewhite, Ogelsby, Howard, White), 51.67.

400 -- 4. Ailena Stoval, 1:04.46; 8. Kyla Robinson, 1:07.49.

300m hurdles -- 6. Yalanda Johnson, 52.71.

Shot put -- 8. Taneshia Pulley, 32-5.

High jump -- 1. Betsy Borgsmiller, 5-4; 4. Jalen Peet, 5-0.

Long jump -- 1. Peet, 16-7.50.

Triple jump -- 1. Peet, 33-11.5; 3. Ogelsby, 32-11.

Hillcrest Invitational

SPRINGFIELD -- The Sikeston boys took part in the Hillcrest Invitational on Friday, with Trey Lewis placing second in the long jump and triple jump.

"There was very tough competition," said Flannigan. "We did an OK job, but I'm not happy with our overall results. We had a couple of injuries that made a big difference. We must get healthy and ready to go before our Relays (on Friday)."
