CAPE GIRARDEAU -- The Sikeston Lady Bulldog soccer team defeated Cape Central 2-0 on Tuesday evening in Cape Girardeau.

Led by their defense, who had to battle both Cape Central and strong winds for one half, Sikeston managed to shutout the Lady Tigers.

"Conditions were bad with strong, strong winds so our defense held strong against the wind in the first half," Sikeston head coach Doyle Noe said. "Our defense has been playing pretty well lately. They limited Cape Central's opportunities."

The Lady Bulldogs (6-5) went up by one goal towards the later stages of the first half when Keyonna Blissett kicked one in in the 27th minute. Blissett's goal was assisted by Kristen King.

Madison Chaney added an insurance goal in the 58th minute with the assist coming from Blissett.

Sikeston will be back at home on Thursday when they host Saxony Lutheran. Junior varsity will start at 5 p.m. and will only play one half. Varsity will start around 6 p.m.
