BENTON -- There was some property damage in Scott County during Friday evening's storm but with a tornado sighting confirmed it could have been much worse.

Amber Scudder, county emergency management director, updated commissioners on the storm damage during the regular County Commission meeting Tuesday.

"An EF0 tornado in Chaffee was confirmed by the national weather service yesterday," Scudder said. "There was no significant property damage in the Chaffee area but several trees were downed."

Scudder said a 24-by-30-foot shop on County Highway 261 just north of Oran was reportedly completely destroyed while the residential structure next to it received minimal exterior damage.

Other damage reported was located on County Road 449 just south of the Sikeston Dragstrip where lighting struck flower pots next to a house causing a small fire resulting in minimal exterior damage to the home, according to Scudder.
