As part of a fundraiser for the Immaculate Conception Parish, Mouse Races are planned for the church's Riverfest on May 7. Activities are scheduled from 5-9 p.m. Saturday at the school grounds, located off 560 Powell Ave.
The races, according to Ann Evans Copeland, one of the parish members, are designed to increase interest in the event, which is open to the public. "It is just part of the entertainment planned," she added.
Each of the students in school's pre-kindergarten through sixth grade classes have provided names for the mice racers and each class is sponsoring a race.
According to Copeland, the races will feature specially bred mice provided by a company in St. Louis. The mice will compete in six heats with the seventh and final race determining an overall winner.
