Scott Central wins school record 10th game

Wednesday, May 11, 2011

SIKESTON -- The Scott County Central Braves baseball team did what no other has done before them.

On Tuesday, the Braves won their 10th game of the season -- a first for any team in the school's history -- by defeating the Hayti Indians 16-0 in five innings.

"I was really happy for the kids to get to experience that," Scott Central coach Matt Limbaugh said. "We've been stuck on nine wins before. It was just nice to break the curse."

The Braves (10-6) pounded nine hits and scored six runs in the second inning to give them a commanding lead. That tacked on five runs in the third and five more in the fourth to put the game away.

Kamryn Johnson got the win on the mound for Scott Central pitching all five innings. He gave up three hits and struck out eight.

Nathan Holland, Trey Johnson and Blake Pobst all had two hits to lead the Braves at the plate. Bryan Freed and Dustin Johnson each added triples in the win.
