Chaffee drops twin bill; Oran, Charleston both fall Wednesday

CHAFFEE -- The Chaffee Red Devils dropped two games of a doubleheader on Wednesday, falling to Notre Dame 8-2 in the first game and losing to Oak Ridge 4-0 in the nightcap.

In the opener, Notre Dame scored seven runs in the final three innings to get past Chaffee as Cody Heisserer earned the win. Jared Walker and Trevor Cannon each doubled for the Red Devils as Andrew Terhune finished 2-for-3 in a losing cause.

In the second game, Oak Ridge ace and University of Missouri signee Brett Thomas held Chaffee (17-6) to two hits while striking out 15 as the Blue Jays won 4-0.

Cape Central 2, Charleston 1

CAPE GIRARDEAU -- The Cape Central Tigers squeezed out two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to down Charleston 2-1 on Wednesday.

Ethan Browning was tagged with the loss despite allowing only two hits. Cape Central's Thomas Crocetti earned the win while going 2-for-3 at the plate.

Poplar Bluff 13, Oran 6

ORAN -- After jumping out to an early three-run lead, the Oran Eagles saw visiting Poplar Bluff break out for four home runs in 13-6 loss on Wednesday.

Leading the Eagles on their eight hit performance, Nolan Urhahn had two hits on the game, including a double.

The loss drops Oran to 18-2 with the Eagles set to host the Bernie Mules Friday at 4:30 p.m.
