Wednesday, May 18, 2011

BOLIVAR -- Sikeston junior Evan Deere just missed an all-state finish at the Missouri Class 3 State Golf Tournament at the Silo Ridge Golf Course in Bolivar on Tuesday.

Deere carded an 80 on Tuesday for a two-day total of 161 which put him in 22nd place, three strokes shy of all-state honors.

"Evan played well both days," Sikeston golf coach Andy McGill said. "His goal was to be all-state and he almost did that. He has improved every year up here and I'm proud of him."

Sikeston's Ben Murray shot a 100 on Tuesday for a two-day total of 195 which placed the junior in 88th place.

"It was an overall good experience for him," McGill said about Murray. "For him to by inside the top 90 in the state is a pretty good thing, no matter how he played at state."

Dexter's Logan Robey finished 30th with a two-day total of 164 after an 82 on Tuesday. Teammate Cody Stevens shot a 78 on Tuesday to finish with a 165, putting him in 36th place. The Bearcats' Brennen Justice improved by 11 strokes on Tuesday and shot a 183 to put him in 79th place.
