Restoration of the levee is not expected until next year
CHARLESTON -- Farmers hoping to get crops planted this summer in the Birds Point New Madrid Floodway will have to wait on Mother Nature and hope for the best: even temporary protection isn't expected until next spring.
Farmers with land in the spillway have expressed their need to get crops in and concern about doing so without protection from a restored levee.
