Borgsmiller high jumped five feet, five inches to win only the second individual girls state championship in school history and first since Tina Collins won the same event with a jump of 5-4 in 1991.
Joining her making all-state was fellow junior Jalen Peet who finished eighth in the long jump with a distance of 33 feet, 11.5 inches. Teammate Allisha Oglesby just missed all-state honors in the same event, finishing ninth with a jump of 33-9.
Sikeston's 400-meter relay team qualified for the finals on Saturday with a time of 50.80 and will be seeded eighth in the event. Dexter's 400-meter relay team just missed qualifying, finishing ninth with a time of 50.86.
Sikeston's 800-meter relay failed to qualify for the finals as did Vonteria Applewhite in the 200-meter dash.
As a team, Sikeston currently sits in fourth after the first day with 11 points.
On the boys side, the Bulldogs had two all-state performers in the long jump with senior Trey Lewis placing third with a jump of 21-7 and senior Darryl Howard finishing sixth with a mark of 21-4.25. Lewis finished 12th in the high jump with a jump of six feet.
Sikeston's 400-meter and 800-meter relay teams qualified for the finals after finishing fourth (43.14) and seventh (1:30.62) in the preliminaries.
Sikeston's Quentin Washington failed to qualify in the 100-meter and 200-meter dash as did Keldon Warfield in the 110-meter hurdles.
After the first day, Sikeston has 9 points as a team, good enough for sixth place.
