Newspaper improving website's content

Wednesday, June 22, 2011

SIKESTON -- The Standard-Democrat is taking steps to make its business more interactive for users, while still providing the same print product.

"We're now changing the way we post stories online in order to give our readers access to more information quickly," said David Jenkins, assistant managing editor.

Instead of being posted after the day's paper has gone to print, a synopsis of articles is being posted as soon as the reporter has gathered all of their notes for the story. This differs from posting just the first few paragraphs of articles, as was done in the past, explained Jenkins.

He also noted that breaking news articles -- such as last week's murder-suicide -- will be posted online as soon as information is received and verified.

Full stories remain available in the electronic edition, to which subscriptions may be purchased.
