Charges filed following meth lab explosion

SIKESTON -- Two were arrested as a result of a weekend meth lab explosion in Sikeston.

Around 1 a.m. Sunday, the Sikeston Department of Public Safety received several calls in reference to an explosion heard at the Midtowner Motel, 833 E. Malone.

When officers arrived, they found one of the occupants, later identified as Mark Hinklin, sitting outside. Hinklin, disoriented told police that he threw a cigarette in a trash can and it exploded, according to a news release from Sgt. Jim McMillen of DPS.

Following an investigation DPS determined the explosion was related to a meth lab.

Hinklin, 37, of Jackson, was later charged with manufacturing methamphetamine and possession of a controlled substance. As of press time, he remained in custody in the Scott County Jail with a $25,000 cash only bond.

John Derek Deloach, 23, of Sikeston, was arrested during the incident and later charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and a parole violation. As of press time, Deloach remained in custody in the Scott County Jail with a $2,000 cash only bond.
