SIKESTON -- Board of Municipal Utilities customers in Sikeston may have experienced brief power outages on Monday night, likely due to the heat.
"We had a couple of little problems last night," said Ed Throop, BMU's general manager.
A bushing -- a hollow insulating liner through which a conductor passes -- on one of the main transformers in the southeast section of town went out, explained Throop. A short time later, one of the bushings on the main transformer at the power plant was affected, which knocked off the plant for a short time.
Temperatures are expected to remain in the 90s throughout the week and into the weekend. With a chance of showers on Wednesday and Thursday, according to the Weather Service.
