Delinquent taxes: City prepares list of delinquent city personal property taxes

SIKESTON -- Being on the list in this case is not a good thing.

The city of Sikeston will publish an insert in the Aug. 10 edition of the Standard Democrat the names of all individuals and businesses that are delinquent on city personal property taxes.

City Collector Vicky Lewis said 2004 was the first year the city published the list of those with delinquent taxes as an effort to collect revenue owed to the city and to clear up the city's tax roll.

"It's been working pretty well," she said. New listings are added to the list with every tax year "but it is shrinking."

As of Friday, the list includes approximately 2,867 individuals and businesses.
