SIKESTON -- For 39 years, the Long Term Care Ombudsman Program, through its volunteers, has served as an advocate to Missouri's long-term care facility residents. However, the program is looking for volunteers in Sikeston, according to Region Two Ombudsman Coordinator Jan McFerron.
According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, an ombudsman's main job is "to help residents in long-term care facilities maintain or improve their quality of life by helping ensure their rights are not violated."
Ombudsman volunteers "try to resolve small problems before they become large problems," McFerron said.
